I would absolutely recommend Blood Red Sky to horror fans, vampire fans, airplane fans, pretty much anyone. No sparkling or love triangles on the flying plane of death. Although Twilight vampires and Blood Red Sky vampires are as you might expect, wildly disparate. The film has rocketed to become the number one show or movie on the Netflix, somewhat unusual to see for a foreign film, and between this movie and the fact that all the Twilight movies have recently hit Netflix, it’s vampire-central over there right now. ![]() As it turns out, what is essentially a giant flying coffin is a perfect setting for a vampire film, and the claustrophobia is the film’s best asset, in addition to its vampire design and practical effects as the plane fills with blood. Netflix’s latest original horror-thriller first appears to be a maternally minded thriller, as a. Still, the final result is still a fun, worthwhile bloodbath. If you’re unsure about the film for its first half, be sure to stick around for the second where things get truly wild. by Dais Johnston JThe premise of Blood Red Sky makes for a fantastic trailer. And yet, by the end of the film, you sort of retroactively realize that some of the stuff presented ultimately didn't matter, and that maybe there was a better story to tell within the larger one. Despite really only appealing to the niche crowd of vampire-enthusiasts, Blood Red Sky has received some positive ratings.Rotten Tomatoes Tomatometer score locks it in at a surprisingly high 72 percent, while its audience score is a bit lower than that at 43 percent. Sometimes attempts to give us quick shots of passengers in these disaster movies go awry, as we're usually introduced to a parade of caricatures and/or bad stereotypes, but Blood Red Sky is able to pull it off with moderate success. The film also lets us get to know several of the crew members and passengers, allowing investment in the collateral damage and, in turn, the overall stakes. BLOOD RED SKY (2021) Is a brilliant Netflix original horror film about an airplane infested with a swarm of vampires. Purcell's performance, meanwhile, is decent, not breaking the mastermind mold, but delivering satisfactory goods as the head of this hired hijack team. ![]() ![]() Like Nadja, Scheer's Eightball is someone who's going to cause expansive trouble, no matter whose side he's on, and he makes for a great foil for Nadja. You can use whatever film or video you have on your iPhone or record a new video and you upload it to the servers. The tricky part is actually the printing part. Yes, but the technical part is not so tricky. The software isolates the frames, is that what happens? Then you can transform the movie into a real flick book that gets sent to you by mail afterwards. Then recently we said ‘Why don’t we do an iPhone app?’ So we created an iPhone app, and what happens is that when you record a movie. We started with this idea, programmed the software and it’s actually licensed to some other partners in Europe. We started programming and we started to fall in love with this idea and it all grew. But last month, a new startup in Zürich, Switzerland,, launched an iPhone application that lets users take their own short 15-second videos, upload them to their servers, and then, for a small fee, prints that video as a small, 50-page flick book, which the company says is about the size of an iPhone (10 cm x 5.5 cm, or 3.9 inches x 2.1 inches). ![]() Mistakes didn’t matter, and second chances didn’t exist. In May of 2014, inspired by the “20-Song Game”, they began arriving each morning in their Portland space-housed in the cafeteria and break room of an old warehouse- with the mission of making as much music as possible in one month. Summers and Weikel discovered just how adaptable and powerful their studio could be. As producers, they’d remixed Shabazz Palaces, picked up mixing sessions with Portland acts and earned representation from Global Positioning Services. In 2013, the pair took on their first full-scale production project, the Brazilian rock band Quarto Negro, after the group inquired about their space and availability through Facebook. They’d sunk entire recording advances into studio purchases, collaborating with local engineers to build custom gear and a space where they could blend high fidelity with kaleidoscopic sound. In a sense, The Helio Sequence had spent their whole career preparing for this record. That’s how we tend to work, but we wanted to try something new, open and immediate.” “We shut ourselves off from the world and disappeared down the rabbit hole. “Negotiations was a very long, introspective process,” remembers Summers of the band’s 2012 Sub Pop LP. Brandon Summers and Benjamin Weikel took the spirit of the “The 20-Song Game” to heart, and forged ahead writing a new record. When they were finished, they’d have a party, listen to the results and talk about the process-of taking the good with the bad, of letting creativity push past constraint, of simply making music in the moment. Several of the duo’s friends within the Portland, Oregon music scene had been playing “The 20-Song Game.” The rules were simple, playful and ambitious: Songwriters would arrive in their studios at prearranged times and spend all day recording 20 complete songs. The self-titled sixth album by The Helio Sequence began with a friendly competition. In his review of the album for AllMusic, Richie Unterberger says the Helio Sequence combine "dense electric textures in which the voice is just another hazy element with atmospheric keyboards, guitar, and electronic effects", but that the songs eventually blur "together into similar overall moods as the disc progresses.20:30 23:30:00 38 TUES Oct 18 - The Helio Sequence at The Fox Theatre The Helio Sequence (Official) with Special GuestsĪll 21+ Tickets MUST be accompanied by a Valid Photo ID. ![]() Reception Professional ratings Review scores It is less pop-oriented than their later albums, and it features longer songs densely layered with synthesizers. Matrix is able to escape and with the help of a woman he kidnaps named Cindy, played by Rae Dawn Chong, he is able to track Jenny down to a little island off the coast of Santa Barbara, California. ![]() So, that's it, that's why he was abducted and his daughter was kidnapped. Arius wants him to commit a political assassination so he can lead a military coup. A retired special agent named John Matrix led an elite unit and has left the armed forces to live in a secluded mountain home with his daughter Jenny. His daughter is kidnapped and he is blackmailed by a former Latin American dictator named Arius (played by Dan Hedaya who is probably better remembered by American audiences as Nick Tortelli on "Cheers"). Matrix is a former member of a special forces unit. But in "Commando," Arnold Schwarzenegger's character John Matrix is no match for the countless obstacles that are preventing him from saving his kidnapped daughter, played by a young Alyssa Milano. This is why "Die Hard" was such a great film, the hero of the film didn't look like everyone who came into his way was doomed. Apart from a bad script, there are numerous horrible one-liners and bad acting. These films have outlandish or undeveloped storylines that take a backseat to action sequences that involve the hero of the film being a one man army taking down countless "bad guys." It's an excuse for violence from men with too much testosterone and roid rage that appeals to the adolescent moviegoer. Do the plots in these films actually matter? Probably not. They're extremely boring, anticlimactic, unsatisfying, and for the most part bad films. Surround, Dolby A, Dolby SR, Dolby StereoĪction films don't impress me much. And who could forget the Jamaican steel drum music. The most memorable is "Remember Sully when I promised to kill you last? I lied!!". The bad guy has barely gotten one line out about his kidnapped daughter before he gets a bullet in his head. The best thing about this movie is that it doesn't take its time to get started. The professional editor Sven who runs the YouTube channel This Guy Edits has made a few videos about his love for Final Cut which mirrors my reasons for liking the product Here’s one of them Unless you plan on getting into Hollywood editing, I recommend not touching Avid, haha Not stuck with old analogue metaphors of bins and tracks.īut honestly you won’t really go terribly wrong with any of these - Well, maybe Avid. ![]() I’m personally a Final Cut user and enthusiastically like the experience of editing with Final Cut where I kinda find it annoying with other software - it feels to me like I have to force the software to give me what I want, where when I use FInal Cut I feel like the tool makes everything as fast for me to achieve as it can be. DaVinci Resolve started out as just a colour correction tool and it was best in class - used by basically everyone in the film work. Avid Media Composer is the Hollywood king. Premiere has a fair bit of use in TV production. It also has some use in TV production and film but not as much as Final Cut 7 did. So not sure how a need for good reference materials/training/online forums would play into which video-editing software I choose, but I wanted to mention this, as I have no background in anything artsy or creative, but I do have high aspirations!!įinal Cut Pro X is widely used among YouTubers. And when I look online for other video-editing forums, the choices are slim. I know there are tons of how-to videos on YouTube for everything, but I really want one or more online communities where I can talk to people and get help when I need it. I guess one other big consideration is community support. In the end, I just want to be smart which software I choose up front, because I don't want to waste a bunch of time going down one path, only to find out it won't meet my needs down the road. I am leaning towards Apple's Final Cut Pro X because it is only $400, and I would owe it forever! So which video-editing software should I choose? (I installed a trial version of some Adobe software a few years ago, and I have yet to figure out how to get it completely off of my other Mac?!)īut at the same time, it seems like Adobe offers superior software when you consider Photoshop, Illustrator, Premiere Pro, and so on. My other issue with Adobe software - speaking from experience - is that their new subscription-based software seems like a real fubar as far as gumming up your computer. However, my biggest problem with Adobe is that they have switched to a subscription model, and if you want to use any of their software, you are stuck for life having to pay a monthly/annual subscription. ![]() It seems to me that Adobe's Premiere Pro is considered the "top dog" in video-editing software. My end goal is to purchase software that is *professional-grade* and that could be used to produce high-end videos/movies/documentaries.
